3rd party SSDs for the most part DO NOT have trim support in Yosemite without kext signing security tradeoffs. Apple changes kext signing in OS X 10.10 such that kext singing must be disabled to use applications like Trim Enabler for trim support. So, for Yosemite, reduced security or an OWC SSD with Sandforce are only choices as of now. Trim kext is altered in Yosemite. This is not relevant if you're using an Apple installed SSD or Sandforce SSD such as OWC's.

After backing up your MacBook with Time Machine, you just turn off and unplug your laptop, swap the drives, then hold Command-R down on the keyboard when first restarting the computer. Either way you go the process is the same and, aside from one long data transfer you can sleep through, it only takes a few minutes. I timed my old drive right before the switch, and it took 50 seconds to boot to the login screen. After swapping to my SSD, I timed the boot-up again. The new SSD would take about 48 seconds to get to the login screen. Two seconds faster than the old one, but not as remarkable as I had hoped.
