I need to generate PDF documents with a PDF table of contents from Microsoft Word 2011. The PDF table of contents can for example be viewed in Preview using View -> Table of Contents. This works well on my Windows machine. I just: Select Save As > PDF; Click Options; Check the Create Bookmarks using headings check box. But on Mac OS X this option is not available. Can you upload an example? When I do it in Word 2000 using the body text style like you did using the Text body style in Writer, Word returns 'Error! No table of contents entries found.' Is there any way to create a ToC in MS Word for Mac so that the entries are hyperlinked to the content? It happens automatically if the doc is created on a PC but this incredibly useful functionality appears to be missing from the Mac version. PLEASE can anyone help? The only fix I’ve found so far was for an open office version and the functionality is different in this software so it doesn’t work on my Mac.

OK, I've found what was wrong: even your Contents 1 paragraph style (used in the automatic ToC) had a numbering style (in the Outline & Numbering tab of the style). Headings are numbered with the Tools>Outline Numbering dialog. Lists are numbered through list styles (or with the toolbar button). But both features are different and exclusive: don't use a numbering style for your readings. ToC is generated from the Outline Numbering configuration.
